African Drumming Workshop for Black History Month
The main purpose of our music workshops is to help young people express their thoughts and feelings through music. Participants will learn different ways of making music from song writing to music recording workshops. These workshops are designed to feature and bring out the creative talents out of young people. Our music workshop not only helps participants gain new skills but also shows a demo of their work.

A Sample Music Workshop Lesson Plan
Part One: Introduction to the music workshop and the equipment that is going to be used (e.g. in a DJ or Music Comp workshop the mixers and turntables or the Djembe drum in an African drumming workshop).
Part Two: Learning the basics (basic rhythmical patterns and call and response in African drumming or mixing, cueing up and fading in DJ Skills/Music Composition)Part Three: Learning the fundamentals (meaning and history behind certain African drum rhythm or in a DJ skills/Music Comp workshop the as basic scratch patterns and techniques, chopping beats and using edits)
Part Four: Participants will learn more advance techniques as their skill level and confidence increases (e.g. in a DJ Skills workshop participants will learn how to use effects such as echo's, delays, samples and off beats, In the African drumming workshop participants will be split into groups to play different rhythms that will form a larger ensemble)
Part Five: The work is finalized and ready to be performed. (In DJ skills or music comp, a CD or MP3 of the works is recorded, edited and mastered)
