Schools Urged To Cater for Girls in PE

May 3rd, 2012

Schools are being urged to introduce new and interesting female-friendly fitness activities an classes dancing and other alternative fitness program that lean towards female interests.

Recent research suggests that girls are doing less physical activities in schools than boys and this gap is increasing over time.

A study for the Women’s Sports and Fitness Foundation indicates more than half of girls are put off by PE classes.

The WSFF wants schools to make PE lessons more appealing towards girls.

The research was conducted by Loughborough University; it found huge differences between the attitudes of girls and boys towards doing PE.

Those differences were bigger in older school children.

Falling Exercise Levels In Children

Eight-year-olds did similar levels of activity: about 60% of those questioned, both girls and boys, said they did regular exercise – at least an hour, five days a week.

But among 14-year-old girls, that figure had halved – only 31% said they exercised regularly, compared with 50% of 14-year-old boys.

The research found most girls wanted to do more physical activity, but many were put off by PE classes.

Some said they did not like exercising in front of boys, and they were not confident about their sporting skills.

Playground Trade is Driving Smoking in Schools

May 2nd, 2012

Children and teenagers access to cigarettes is most often through peer groups at school, suggests research drawing on the habits of over 9,000 young smokers today.

The study from the Institute of Education, University of London, says efforts to stop smoking should tackle such “social sources” of cigarettes to help prevent the problem

Researchers are saying that this would reduce the amount of visibility of smoking in children and teenagers lives. This would in turn help to battle smoking in schools and within the youth of today.

The study from the institute’s Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre looks at how to interrupt the process by which youngsters take up smoking.

Using Drugs & Alcohol Awareness Workshops

Smoking is not the only issue amongst the youth of today in the UK there are huge drug and alcohol issues, smoking is a small part of the growing puzzle. This method of trying to reduce the amount of exposure children and teenagers get towards cigarettes is also being used towards alcohol and other stronger drugs.

More can be done to help prevent children and teens from using drugs, we need to tackle the problems head on and from all angels in order to make a dent.

Utilising Trap Media’s Drugs & Alcohol Awareness Workshops your organisation can have a bespoke workshop, this helps make children aware of the issues that drugs and alcohol bring, and provides them with a comfortable sound board to discuss current problems and issues they may be facing day to day.

During a anti smoking workshop participants will be shown some of the effects that smoking can have.

International studies of millions of people by government, industry, universities,
and private research institutions have determined that smoking can cause:

1. Stained teeth, fingers, and hair
2. Increased frequency of colds, particularly chest colds and bronchitis
3. Asthma
4. Neuralgia
5. Gastrointestinal difficulties, constipation, diarrhea, and colitis
6. Headaches
7. Nausea
8. Convulsions
9. Leukoflakia (smoker’s patch)
10. Insomnia
11. Heart murmur
12. Buerger’s disease (inflammation of blood vessel linings)
13. Shortness of breath
14. Arthritis
15. Smoker’s hack
16. Nervousness
17. Wrinkles and premature aging
18. Tension
19. Gastric, duodenal, and peptic ulcers
20. Lung cancer
21. Cancer of the lip, tongue, pharynx, larynx, and bladder
22.Emphysema
23.High blood pressure
24. Heart disease
25. Artherosclerosis & arteriosclerosis (thickening and loss of elasticity of the blood vessels with lessened blood flow)
26. Inflammation of the sinus passages
27. Tobacco angina (nicotine angina pectoris)
28. Pneumonia
29. Influenza
30. Pulmonary tuberculosis
31. Tobacco amblyopia
32. impared hearing
33. Decreased sexual activity
34. Mental depression

Blood flow to the extremities is decreased (cold hands and feet). One puff lowers the temperature in the fingertips 1ºF to 3ºF in 3 minutes.

Nicotine affects the nerve-muscle junctions, causing tremors and shaking. Nicotine causes narrowing and constriction of the arteries, adding to the heart’s load. Nicotine, through its ability to stimulate, causes excitement and anxiety. But the effect wears off, often a period of depression follows, whereupon another cigarette is taken. Nicotine, an insecticide, makes the blood more viscous and decreases the available oxygen. It also adversely affects the breathing, sweating, intestinal, and heart actions of our autonomic nervous system, probably due to hindering the blood flow to the nerve centres in the brain.

This is just touching on some on the physical and mental effects smoking can have our workshops are run by one of our experienced trainers who are enhanced CRB checked. The workshops are designed to be interactive using discussions and theatre to interact with participants.

During our anti drug and alcohol workshops we aim to identify and correct myths and ignorance, and to ensure that participants are aware of up-to-date information on the consequences of using banned substances and tobacco, and of the misuse of alcohol, solvents.

Together we explore how best to tackle pressures, and equally importantly, how to support peers and friends in making and keeping to the right life-affecting decisions.

All our workshops, we tailor content and emphasis to each school’s policy and needs. Overall review and revision of our workshops is a continuing process.

The Importance of Corporate Drumming Events

April 25th, 2012

Whether it is a football team, a team of volunteers or team members within a company, it is important to understand how corporate team building can add to your organisation! In the case of companies, team building is a crucial aspect which helps determine how profitable the company will become. Long term commitments to making a team more successful will greatly benefit the company in many ways, from day to day operation, functions, services and problem solving.

Organisations who take the time to invest in their employees typically benefit from employees who remain committed and who persevere through the hard times a company may go through. Team building can be viewed as costly to some companies, not only in money but in time taken to achieve the required results.

Effective corporate team building will provide the business whether large or small, with an opportunity to build upon a solid foundation. Corporate Team building will also lead to having employees who are excited about training, learning, and growing within the company. Any time an employee feels appreciated and feels rewarded for their work and efforts in their company, the employee is more likely to work to his or her fullest potential.

Long-term employees are one of the best aspects of a company. Having long-term employees mean that the company will have a smaller percentage of a turnover rate in employees. Having a smaller turnover rate will result in the business spending less money on training new people due to former employees leaving. The greater level of standards and the effective operation will help the company to enjoy higher prosperity and a more solid future.

Here at Trap Media we offer interactive team building drumming events to help unite your company boost your employee motivation and reduce stress levels.  Trap Media’s corporate drumming events are suitable for conferences, promotional events, stress management, ice-breaker, events closers or just corporate entertainment!

Corporate Drumming Events For Your Company

April 5th, 2012

Whether you’re looking to increase productivity, reduce stress, stimulate some team-building, or just improve morale, offering your employees or colleagues a little creative outlet is just what you need! When it comes to team building and ice breakers, there is one method that has blown all others out of the water in recent years.

Rather than sharing information about your life or thinking of ways to solve problems in groups at your next corporate event, you can join the thousands of people who have taken part in the journey of team building in the form of corporate drumming.

Not only are Corporate Drumming Workshops & Events proven to relieve stress and improve mental and physical well-being, they also encourage and celebrate teamwork and community in the workplace.

Many big companies have begun using corporate drumming events as a way of team building or ice breakers. We have worked with HSBC, Birdseye, Kimberley Clarke and Tam Air to name but a few, in venues such as Lords Cricket Ground and the Common Wealth Club.

Corporate Drumming Workshop @ Birds Eye by Trap Media

There are many benefits to corporate drumming, and plenty of businesses throughout the country have been greatly rewarded by their experiences with corporate drumming workshops.

Large companies can have a tendency to let their staff members get lost in the sea of people, becoming in some people’s eyes purely a number as opposed to an individual. With hundreds or thousands of employees, it is easy for employees to feel neglected or unmotivated.

Corporate team building events often fall short, but team building drumming has the ability to motivate, and inspire long after the event has ended. The beat of the drum is much more powerful than the barriers of spoken word, and it allows active participants to work together, creating a strong sense of purpose, unity, and determination.

The results of a Corporate Drumming Event are always positive, and the return on your company’s investment is always positive and lasts a long time after the event.

One of the beauties of Trap Media’s corporate drumming workshops is that they can be tailored to fit the themes of any existing corporate event, whether the focus is on teambuilding, communication, creativity or some other facet of corporate development.
