Samba Dance Workshops are hugely popular and a key part of Brazilian culture, popular not only because of the unique style of the dance but the tempo and energetic feel that it brings.

This history of Samba Dance dates back to 19th century Brazil, the Samba is considered the dance of celebration and joy at Carnival celebrations in Rio. Lively and rhythmical, there are many types of Samba dances, just like there are many types of Samba music. We offer Samba Dance Workshops to give you a taste of Brazil. So what makes Samba Dance unique? Well it has some very distinct actions and steps that set it apart from other forms of dance.

Samba Action

The major action of Samba, the “Samba Bounce Action,” gives the dance its unique look and feel. The Samba Bounce Action is a gentle, rhythmic action felt through the knees and ankles. Samba dancers must strive to make this action appear effortless and carefree…it should never be exaggerated. This bounce action is quite difficult to master, but really adds to the overall character of the Samba.

Distinctive Samba Steps

The basic footwork of the Samba includes fast, three-step weight changes with a slight knee lift, led with alternating feet. The basic rhythm is “quick, quick, slow, and.” Distinctive Samba steps include the following:

• Voltas
• Bota Fogos
• Kick Change
• Samba Side Steps
• Samba Strut

The Samba also has a distinctive, dramatic climax, it concludes with dancers throwing back their heads and extending their arms out to the sides.

Samba Rhythm and Music

Samba music, with its distinctive rhythm, is highlighted by original Brazilian musical instruments, including the tamborim, chocalho, reco-reco and cabaca. Samba is danced to music with a tempo of about 100 beats per minute. The fast and energetic rhythm of Samba music encourages spontaneous dancing, such as in the streets during a Carnival celebration.

To those of you who don’t know Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The last day of Chinese New Year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and typically children carrying lanterns in a parade.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honour of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.

Street Fit – Behind The Scenes

After lots of anticipation we can finally realise the first glimpse of Street Fit via our online videos, all the hard work and dedication is there for all to see. Behind the scenes helps to give you guys a quick glimpse at the hard work and effort not to mention fun that we had during the filming process. The whole process feels like it has taken a long time to come together but really things have happened very quickly.

We started with the audition process to find our dancers for the video, there were several key factors to take into consideration when choosing our final dancers. We were looking for people who clearly showed a natural gift for Street Dance and who we felt fitted in with the Street Fit brand and image. The selection process was very difficult and everyone who took part really did give it 100%. After that we began to compile our ideas for our promo video and learn the moves. Shooting all the videos across three days was a tough process with long hours and hard work from all involved, which can be seen in the behind the scenes video.

For us here at Street Fit the creation of this fantastic fitness program starts and ends with a love for fitness and dance, we are very passionate about both and our videos needed to not only do the Street Fit brand but Street Dance and Fitness justice. All the videos are geared towards showing this passion and showing you guys what we do.
