Light Your Schools Olympic Torch

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Are you excited and ready for the Olympic Games? Well we are! It’s time you get excited too!

Here at Trap Media we want to give you ideas and opportunities to help you make the most of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Using the power of the Olympic values our aim is to help inspire young people to take part in school sport and PE to work towards leading healthy lifestyles, with the Olympic Torch just being lit now is the time to light your students creativity and passion for the Olympics!

We wanted to give you some tips and ideas to help prepare your children for the Olympics with some basic activities you can use adapt and develop. We offer a range of workshops that can be directly used towards raising the awareness of the Olympics.

Activities to Introduce the Olympics:

Olympic Event

Why not give children the opportunity to design, run and take part in their own Olympic event. This could either take place in one day or over a number of PE lessons or lunch times.

Devise teams to give children the opportunity to take part in several events against others of their own age and ability. Throughout the competition they can also score points for their design skills, creativity, organisational skills and their ability to officiate and lead.

Why not book an enterprising workshop geared towards the Olympics, some sports coaching workshops that have mini Olympic events for your students to take part in?

Opening Ceremony

Symbolism has always been a major part of the Olympic Games, with high-profile opening and closing ceremonies providing a combination of messages from the host nation and Olympic ideology.

The Olympic flame symbolises the endeavour for perfection, the struggle for victory, peace and friendship.

  • What message should be given out in the opening speech of the school Olympics and who should make it?
  • Who should be chosen to light the school’s very own Olympic flame?
  • How would competitors initially enter the arena?

Give your children the opportunity to devise and discuss their own choices for the opening ceremony, why not design their own Olympic touch too?

With so many nationalities involved in the Olympics multicultural workshops offer a great introduction to other cultures. Try African Drumming, Chinese Ribbon Dance or Samba Dance all great ways to devise an opening ceremony for your students to partake in.

Olympic Logo Design

Host a mini-Olympic logo design competition; it is a prime example of how sport can act as a vehicle to develop cross-curricular learning – the focus in this instance being design and technology.

As a massive sporting, social and cultural festival, the Games always leaves a strong legacy for its host city. Similarly, a study of the Olympics can have a lasting impact on school life, as through in school experiences children’s interest in sport may be heightened or even initiated. With so many cultures and nations taking place most subjects can gear lessons towards the Olympics not just PE.

The perfect addition to celebrating the Olympics are our visual arts workshops, try a mask making workshop, photography workshop or perhaps sculpture and design your own Olympic based projects we can meet your requirements and outcomes.

Street Fit – Behind The Scenes

Street Fit – Behind The Scenes

After lots of anticipation we can finally realise the first glimpse of Street Fit via our online videos, all the hard work and dedication is there for all to see. Behind the scenes helps to give you guys a quick glimpse at the hard work and effort not to mention fun that we had during the filming process. The whole process feels like it has taken a long time to come together but really things have happened very quickly.

We started with the audition process to find our dancers for the video, there were several key factors to take into consideration when choosing our final dancers. We were looking for people who clearly showed a natural gift for Street Dance and who we felt fitted in with the Street Fit brand and image. The selection process was very difficult and everyone who took part really did give it 100%. After that we began to compile our ideas for our promo video and learn the moves. Shooting all the videos across three days was a tough process with long hours and hard work from all involved, which can be seen in the behind the scenes video.

For us here at Street Fit the creation of this fantastic fitness program starts and ends with a love for fitness and dance, we are very passionate about both and our videos needed to not only do the Street Fit brand but Street Dance and Fitness justice. All the videos are geared towards showing this passion and showing you guys what we do.

Check out the video below!

Overall we have had a great time shooting the videos and we really look forward to making more in the future, although a stressful process we hope you agree that it has been well worth it. Let us know what you think, it’s important to us that you get involved in the conversation on facebook.

Over the coming weeks we will be releasing each of the videos for all to see, these are integral to help people to understand what Street Fit is, and what it can do for you. Please be sure to follow us on facebook, twitter and check out our youtube channel.

More video’s to come!

Sex Education Workshops

Friday, October 21st, 2011

Trap Media provide Sex Education Workshops to schools, colleges and youth organisations across the UK. The workshops are aimed to address social issues surrounding sex and relations to empower young people to be able to make the right choices in life.

Our Sex Education Workshops use a creative approach, to help guide participants to make informed choices – for themselves through drama based performance and various interactive activities. It is important to make sure that children get the correct support and knowledge where sexual education is concerned.

Our aims with all workshops are to provide all participants with current and factual information in an effort to promote healthy sexuality and healthy choices and to prevent unplanned pregnancies, exposure to sexually transmitted infections and sexual exploitation.

All programs welcome and encourage questions from participants, it is important to note that depending on age we can tailor these workshops to suit your needs and outcomes.

Sex Education Workshops allow young people to talk, listen and think about sex, relationships and other sensitive subjects in a way that reduces embarrassment and protects privacy. Also to act out various scenarios of issues facing they encounter regular basics.

Sex education has always been a difficult subject to teach, it is very important at all participants get the information they require and feel comfortable to ask questions. All our facilitators are experts at teaching sex education, they encourage participants to get involved and make the workshop more interesting, interactive and memorable.
