You Must Read This! Before Booking Any African Arts Workshops...

Let me ask you a simple question... with so much choice on the internet how do you know you are getting 100% Authentic African Arts workshops at the best price, can all these companies claiming to be providers of workshops be relied on?

At Trap Media we kid you not when we say we can guarantee you that no one else in the UK can offer a wider range of professional workshops at an amazing price than us.

So before booking with someone else consider these questions below and you will realise Trap Media is the company of choice for any creative workshops nationwide. We just don't provide workshops we provide an experience you will never forget.

World CupDo they have CRB Checks, Public Liability and a Child Protection Policy in place to safe guard vulnerable people?

World CupAre the workshops authentic? Meaning is the workshop a traditional based multicultural experience?

World CupCan they provide you with at least 5 testimonials from various organisations?

World CupCan they provide you with workshops in Dance, Drama, Music, Visual, Asian and African Arts to your requirements?

World CupCan they deliver nationwide? If so are you sure they will turn up or cancel on you at short notice?

World CupDo they have any credibility or do you know how long they have been around for?

World CupDo they have a dedicated support team to help you coordinate your event?

Well if they can't answer these questions above with full confidence we strongly recommend not using them quite frankly! We take pride and passion in every workshop we provide and you will not be disappointed.

You really don't want to ruin your event or day by booking with the wrong company. We have seen so many organisations let down by companies claming to provide similar workshops - so choose wisely.

African Drumming Workshops

The white sands of Senegal, the winding river of The Gambia, the poignant history of Ghana – all linked together by the drum. In traditional life, a new baby would take its first breath to the beat of a drum and the drum would also mark the end of life. It is no wonder they call Africa, ‘The Drum Continent’.

African Drumming Workshops @ Bishops Holt School

Our African Drumming Workshops for children or adults will focus on the rhythms of West Africa, with our master drummers leading students on an uplifting, collaborative journey into the creation of a unique, living sound. Seated in a drum circle, each participant will get the chance to play the bass, tone and slap notes of the Djembe drum and take their place in a performance based on interlocking rhythms to form a powerful ‘polyrhythmic whole’.

As with all of our Workshops, we are flexible enough to adapt our African Drumming Workshops to your specific timetable, with individual sessions lasting from 30 minutes to an hour.

We will provide everyone with a Djembe drum and take the participants through a body rhythm workshop, leading in to a traditional composition involving multiple parts. Everyone will be able to play an instrument. The end result is a powerful sound and highly stimulating experience.

Traditional African & Caribbean Dance Workshops

A traditional dance experience not to be missed! This is a fun and lively dance workshop, which is not only enjoyable but also serves to educate participants about the meanings of the dances in the African and Caribbean societies from which they originate.

African Drumming Workshop and African Dance Workshop @ Uxbridge College Diversity Day.

Our African & Caribbean dance workshops are designed to introduce participants to the rich culture of the African/Caribbean people as experienced in their dance, rhythm, and music, which are vital means of expression. In this workshop, participants gain a deeper understanding of African dance culture.

Participants will learn how to respond to the African & Caribbean rhythms that accompany the dances by clapping and singing the rhythmic patterns. Songs will be taught that accompany certain dances. To broaden their awareness, children will learn about the musical instruments and important cultural aspects of the countries where the dances originated.

Street Dance and Hip Hop Workshops

Street Dance and hip hop barely need an introduction. As the hottest dance trends for young people today, booking a Trap Media Street Dance and hip hop workshop is bound to be popular.

Coached by top street dancers, children and adults will be unable to resist trying their hand at B-boying (break dancing), popping, locking and other iconic street dance moves. At the same time they will learn that modern street dance and hip hop music have their origins in jazz, funk and earlier, more traditional forms of African music.

Street Dance Workshop
Street dance workshop @ St Helens & Katherine School

At the end of their street dance training, participants will present a fully-choreographed routine designed to wow the audience. Diversity, watch your back!

The songs and music used are geared to the current charts using popular music that fits the hip-hop realm. This dance workshop is very practical – you get stuck straight in learning moves and a full-choreographed routine that will even impress yourself!

Carnival Arts Workshops - Mask/Costume/Bead Making Workshops

When Carlos Saldanha brought us Rio, he introduced a new generation to the spectacle of the Rio Carnival. Now your class can take it further as they explore colour and costume, in our interactive Carnival Arts Workshops.

Learn about the fascinating culture of street art and the history behind carnival parades, festivals, street theatre and other celebrations. Children will love finding out about the meaning behind different types of mask before designing their own. They will also create their own headdresses and props.

Visual Arts
Carnival Venetian Mask Making Workshop @ The Astley Cooper School

Carnival is a popular celebration across the world, and this celebration is characterised by colourful costumes and masks. In the workshop, participants also learn about the meaning and representations of certain masks, such as the spiritual uses of masks evident in some ancient African traditions.

To book a Carnival Mask Making Workshop please call our bookings line FREE today on 0800 689 9909.

Afro Cuban & Samba Drumming Workshops - Rio to Havana!

Samba is the rhythmic language of Brazil, not to mention the sound behind the Rio Carnival. When slaves from the Atlantic coast of Bahia brought their lively, energetic sound to the city, little would they have known that Samba would evolve to become a cultural icon.

Brazilian & Samba Percussion Workshop @ Girl Guiding

This workshop will also introduce participants to the distinctive Afro-Cuban rhythms, from where we get the Bata and Rumba dances.

As well as hearing new sounds, participants will get their hands on some exotic instruments from Agogo bells to the Surdo and Djembe drums

Tales & Myths - African Storytelling Workshops with Music or Dance

Storytelling in Africa is a communal and interactive affair – perfectly adapted to the classroom. Led by authentic West African storytellers, children will learn about the rich mythology and cosmology of the African people through strong, expressive characters.

Storytelling
African Storytelling Workshop & Music @ St Vincent Primary School

Stories were one way in which elders passed ethics and morals, as well as knowledge, down to younger members of the village and so there will be plenty of ideas to discuss with the class. Add to this a lively mixture of song, chanting, music and dance and it is easy to see why our African Storytelling Workshop is so appealing, especially when combined with an African Dance or African Drumming Workshop.

Dear Trap Media, I’m not sure if Yve has contacted you since we had the African Drumming workshop on 24th October. But the session was excellent, the African drummer (Mohamed) was interactive, friendly and had the group engaged to the African Drumming Workshops. Many thanks for a fabulous African experience!
